Schelde Brouwerij was founded in 1994 by Pieter van den Einden and Kees van Loenhout in the Dutch city of Bergen op Zoom. Over time, the brewery moved to Flanders, since 2008 it is located in the municipality of Hoogstraten in the province of Antwerp in northern Belgium and Peter van der Einden is still the brewer. The connection to their hometown of Bergen-op-Zoom can still be seen in their corporate identity.
The crab on the logo refers to Crabbegat, a carnival that takes place throughout February in Bergen-op-Zoom. The locals, who are called crabs, dress in white linens, red scarves and rather eccentric hats on weekends, and many local bands perform in the streets.
A rich, full-bodied Belgian Blond. The balance between fruitiness and spicy bitterness makes it an unbeatable classic. Non-fatty fish, white meat and steamed dishes and seafood are ideal appetizers. Boiled vegetables and salads. Young semi-hard cheeses as well as soft cheeses. Light desserts. Lamme Godzak is a character from a novel by the Belgian writer Charles De Koster.
Golden malt tripel with a well-balanced bitterness and fruity aftertaste. Aroma of yellow fruit and delicate bitterness are woven together. Fresh, dry, slightly sweet, with subtle coriander notes. Goes well with roast turkey, dishes that have basil (such as pasta with pesto sauce). Seafood dishes, such as shrimp pizza or crab roll. Raw cured ham or sausage, and grilled green vegetables (such as asparagus). French fries would make a great side dish. Perfect, for example, orange cheesecake or apricot cake with amareto. Also, any desserts based on nuts.
An unusual dry-hopped tripel (using Cascade, Citra, Mosaic) for a tropical aroma. Great in harmony with cheese, seafood, spice-infused roast meat or poultry. Sweet non-chocolate desserts such as apple strudel, ginger and oatmeal cookies, or carrot cake.
