Klosterbrauerei
Reutberg

Reutberg Monastery is located in Sachsenkam, about 45 km south of Munich. It was founded in 1618 as a Capuchin convent. In 1651 it became a Franciscan convent. In 1677 the nuns of the convent apply for and receive the right to produce their own beer from the Elector the same year. The convent brewery was rebuilt in 1901 at its present location. All operations at that time were carried out by hand, there were no machines and no cooling devices, so that beer was brewed only in winter. But already by 1904 the brewery building was too small for the existing demand and no longer meets modern technical requirements. In 1906 the brewery was renovated and the first refrigeration machine was installed.
In 1913, electric lights were installed and beer was bottled. After the First World War, Pastor Alois Daisenberger of Sachsenkam and some farmers from the neighborhood came up with the idea of organizing a brewery cooperative, which was founded on October 23, 1924, as the successor of the former brewery.
